Before installing SessionGlance on a clinic machine, we recommend looping in IT or your system admin so they can
approve the installer, handle any security prompts, and confirm compatibility with your environment.
Step 1: Pre-Install Checklist
-
Verify your SessionGlance account.
Confirm that you’ve received:- A welcome or onboarding email
- Your username and password (or reset link)
-
Check your device environment.
SessionGlance currently runs on Windows. Make sure you have:- A Windows computer with enough free space for temporary audio files
- A stable internet connection
- A working microphone (built-in or USB headset)
-
Confirm installation permissions.
On a work computer, ensure you have admin rights or IT support to install new software. On a personal device, confirm that your antivirus or security software allows installs from trusted sources.
Step 2: Download the SessionGlance Installer
-
Locate the official download link.
Use the secure link from your SessionGlance onboarding email or from the SessionGlance download section provided to your organization. -
Start the download.
Click the download link and choose Save when prompted. The installer will typically be saved to your Downloads folder. -
Verify the downloaded file.
Open File Explorer → Downloads and confirm that a file named similar toSessionGlanceSetup.exeis present.
Step 3: Run the Installer & Handle Windows Security Prompts
-
Launch the installer.
In your Downloads folder, double-click the SessionGlance installer file to start setup. -
Respond to Windows SmartScreen.
If you see a message like “Windows protected your PC”:- Click More info
- Then click Run anyway
-
Allow changes to your device.
If a User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears (e.g., “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”), click Yes. For work machines, you may need an admin password or IT support.
Step 4: Complete the Installation Wizard
-
Review the welcome screen.
A SessionGlance setup welcome window will appear. Click Next to continue. -
Accept the license agreement.
Read through the license terms. Click I Agree or Accept to proceed; the installation cannot continue without this. -
Choose the install location.
You can usually accept the default directory (recommended). If your IT department prefers a specific path, click Browse to select it, then click Next. -
Configure shortcuts.
Select whether to create a Start Menu entry and/or a desktop shortcut. Most clinicians find these helpful for quick access. Click Next. -
Install the application.
Click Install to begin. Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%; this may take a minute or two. -
Finish the wizard.
Once the installer reports success, click Finish or Close. You can leave “Launch SessionGlance” checked if you want to open the app immediately.
Step 5: First Launch & Login
-
Open SessionGlance.
If it doesn’t open automatically, double-click the desktop icon or go to Start → SessionGlance. -
Log in with your credentials.
Enter your SessionGlance username and password, then click Log In. -
Resolve login issues if needed.
If login fails:- Check for Caps Lock or extra spaces
- Use “Forgot Password” if the option is available
- Contact your SessionGlance admin/support if you still can’t log in
-
Confirm access to the main dashboard.
Once logged in, you should see the main SessionGlance window with patient selection and recording controls.
Step 6: Install or Confirm the VB-Audio Virtual Device (If Required)
-
Check for VB-Audio in SessionGlance.
Open the Audio/Devices settings in SessionGlance and check the Patient Device drop-down for “VB-Audio” or a similar virtual cable name. -
Install VB-Audio if it’s missing.
If VB-Audio is not listed:- Use the VB-Audio installer provided with your SessionGlance onboarding, or
- Follow the install instructions from your SessionGlance admin/IT team
-
Verify in Windows sound settings (optional).
Open Windows sound settings and confirm a VB-Audio input/output device appears under recording devices. This indicates Windows recognizes the virtual audio cable.
Step 7: Configure Audio Settings Inside SessionGlance
-
Open audio/device settings.
In SessionGlance, click the settings or gear icon and navigate to the audio configuration section. -
Set the Patient Device.
In the Patient device drop-down, select VB-Audio. This allows SessionGlance to capture your client’s telehealth audio. -
Set the Therapist Device.
In the Therapist device drop-down, select your main microphone (built-in mic or USB headset), then speak briefly to check that any input indicator responds. -
Save and close settings.
Click Save or Apply, or close the settings window (depending on your version) to retain the changes.
Step 8: Confirm Windows Microphone Permissions
-
Open Windows microphone privacy settings.
Go to Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone (path may vary slightly by Windows version). -
Allow microphone access.
Ensure that microphone access is turned On for the device, and that apps are allowed to use the microphone. -
Confirm desktop app access.
If Windows lists desktop apps that can use the microphone, ensure access is enabled for those categories so SessionGlance can record audio.
Step 9: Run a Quick Post-Install Test
-
Launch SessionGlance again.
Open the app and log in to confirm everything still works after any restarts or driver installs. -
Select a test patient or dummy profile.
If your system allows it, use a non-clinical test patient set up specifically for training and testing. -
Record a short test session.
Click Record, speak for 30–60 seconds, and (if possible) route some test telehealth audio through VB-Audio. -
Stop and (optionally) upload.
Click Stop and, if you’d like to test the full pipeline, click Upload and complete the quick rating prompts. Confirm there are no error messages.
Step 10: You’re Ready for Live Clinical Use
-
Confirm your checklist.
You’re ready to use SessionGlance with real clients once you have:- Installed SessionGlance successfully
- Logged in without issues
- Configured VB-Audio and your microphone correctly
- Completed a short test recording and (optionally) upload
-
Move into your standard workflow.
From here, follow your “Using SessionGlance” workflow (record → upload → complete rating scales → review/edit reports in the portal) with live clients, knowing your installation and audio configuration are solid.
